Biodiesel

[edit]

Thank you for your edits on biodiesel. I would really like to get this article through the Featured article candidate process in time for August 10th, International Biodiesel Day. That would seem to be appropriate. Since the article has very good content, I feel it mostly just needs editing for consistency and style. If you could help with that I would really appreciate it. Thank you - Taxman 12:32, Jul 31, 2004 (UTC)

advanced technology

[edit]

I started to translate this article on Avanced_technology...but it got dicey pretty quick. I have a double major in Spanish and Computer Science and I've studied abroad but I still wasn't able to get what this person was typing. Read my comments for more detail. I'm not sure where we go with this from here, but it definitely cant stay the way it is....and there really isnt much to translate.--Jpittman 00:38, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I suspected that was non-salvagable, but since my Spanish isn't very good I posted it to PNT to get a better opinion. user:Jmabel has deleted it, which was where I suspected it was going ;). --Satori 21:20, Sep 14, 2004 (UTC)

Re Menai: Please don't use redirects and cut and pastes to move content to articles. Use "Move this page" - it preserves the edit history correctly. Thanks Dysprosia 00:04, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I'll be sure to do that in the future, thanks for pointing it out! Satori 19:11, Sep 22, 2004 (UTC)

Homeorhesis do you know what happened on VfD?

[edit]

Hi! I'm trying to clean up articles on the deadend list and Homeorhesis is on that list. Do you know what happened with this article on VfD? On Sep 15, 2004 you wrote:

"I'm putting this up for discussion, without prejudice. vfd boilerplate was added to this article on May 8, 2004 by user:66.245.31.69 with the summary "Delete. This is a dic-def". It does not appear the article was ever added to the vfd discussion page, so therefore no debate has yet been held, and it still has the vfd boiler"

Various comments followed. Boilerplate is still there, but I can't find reference on either Wikipedia:Votes for deletion or Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Old; Do you know what is happening? I'm a relative newby so there may be a very simple answer that I'm unaware of.

Thanks! --Cje 20:21, 7 Oct 2004 (UTC)

The Humungous Image Tagging Project

[edit]

Hi. You've helped with User:Sietse Snel/Fix common mistakes project, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Speedy

[edit]

When tagging articles for "speedy", please watch for timestamps and contributors. Give people some time slack. mikka (t) 03:05, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, I wasn't trying to step on anyone. From Special:Newpages I saw the Industrial Party Affair article had very few bytes, so I clicked on it, which redired to a blank Industrial Party Trial page. I thought it was just sandboxing, so I tagged it speedy for no content. I didn't realize it was a work in progress. Satori 04:00, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I know you didn't mean bad. I am myself, when patrolling new pages, often in a hurry, because lots of garbage arrives. It was just a reminder. mikka (t) 15:52, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hell, even the names are almost the same. This guy has jumped in like he knows what he's doing. I remember my first few days here; they certainly weren't that busy. I was just testing the waters and I think most well-meaning new users do too. Between him and this new User:Wiki brah, I'm at the end of my rope. "Sigh" is right.  :) This may even be Wiki brah, for all I know. - Lucky 6.9 20:55, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Might be. He hasn't responded at all to the RfC, and now we have this. I say let's do it, not out of spite but because his behavior is driving me out of my gourd. Hopefully, he'll see this as a major wake-up call. Keep me posted, OK? Thanks for letting me in on this. I hate doing it, but we have no choice at this point IMO. - Lucky 6.9 21:45, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maoririder RfAr

[edit]

I've signed on as an initiator; thanks for letting me know you were putting it together. I didn't make any changes to your summary of the charges; I think it's great the way it is.

From what I understand ArbCom requires a completely different evidentiary presentation; things have to be listed by date rather than category. If you need any help recatagorizing the evidence after the RfAr is accepted, just let me know. Soltak 23:37, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have signed on. I have not made, but would suggest, the following changes: 1) Instead of It seems likely that Maori is a child, autistic, or otherwise developmentally challenged write It seems plausible that.... I don't think we have enough evidence to say "likely" and it doesn't really matter if he is anyway, it merely explains how we have been reacting. 2) There were a lot of specific edits citeds in the RfC. Can we either copy those links, or (if it is permitted) incorporate the RfC evidence by reference. 3) we should also note Maoririder's tendency to discuss on the talk page of VfD pages, even after it has been explained to him thsat such discussion is less likelly to be seen. 4) We should also note his penchant for ctreating new and mal-formed stub tags which require significant effort on SfD to cleanup. 5) we should also mention his tendency to create stubs when a non-stub on the same subject (by a different and more appropriate name) already exists. Route 95 was an example of this, as was John Ford Statue. Thanks for taking this on. DES (talk) 02:21, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Neil McIntosh

[edit]

You have linked the Neil McIntosh in this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_Commission_%28United_Kingdom%29 to the Neil McIntosh in this page you edited http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_McIntosh.

They are quite different people.

I would change it, but I'm afraid I don't know how to unlink the pages.

Sir Neil McIntosh, CBE, JP, DL had a career in Local Gov't and was the last Chief Executive of Strathclyde Regional Council before it was abolished. He has a number of public and private roles in Scotland in addition to the Electoral Commission.

These include being a trustee of the National Museums of Scotland, http://www.nms.ac.uk/nms/about/trustees-ind.asp?m=1&s=7&id=2&person=101, his biography there says:

"Neil McIntosh was born in Glasgow, and has worked in industry and local government. In 1985 he joined Dumfries & Galloway Regional Council as Chief Executive, and he co-ordinated the Council's response to the Lockerbie air disaster. He was Chief Executive of Strathclyde Region from 1992 until 1996.

"Neil McIntosh acted as Chief Counting Officer for Scotland in the Scottish Parliamentary Referendum of September 1997, and Chaired the Commission on Local Government and the Scottish Parliament. His current public appointments include the Chair of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland, Member of the UK Electoral Commission and Independent External Adviser to the Northern Ireland Review of Public Administration.

"Neil McIntosh became a Trustee of NMS in 1999 and his second term of appointment runs until March 2007. He lives in Moffat."

Good luck with doing the necessary unlinking and changes!

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:11, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Don't Be A Dick Day, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. MsFionnuala (talk) 22:48, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
